Meet The Small Animal Clinic Team

Dr. Shelly Gomulak

Dr. Shelly Gomulak grew up in upstate New York in a dairy farming community. She attended Cornell University in Ithaca, NY achieving a bachelor’s of science. She liked it so much that she stayed at Cornell for veterinary school as well.

After graduating, Dr. Shelly completed a 1 year internship program at Berwyn Animal Hospital, a specialty clinic in Chicago, IL. She has been practicing just short of 15 years with an emphasis on small animal medicine and surgery.

Shelly also enjoys working with exotics and the special challenges of shelter medicine. She and her husband Matt came to Texas 14 years ago and loved it so much they never left (insert tongue in cheek). They have 5 children and are very involved with the local animal shelter, Noah’s Ark.

Dr. Diana Bayer

Dr. Bayer grew up in Lindsay, TX. She graduated from Texas A & M’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. She has worked on small animals at Independence Animal Clinic since November 2008. Her special interests include internal and preventive medicine.

Outside of work, she enjoys lots of family time with her husband and five children and many pets.

Dr. Aubrey Eberhart

I was raised in Eastern Iowa at a horse-breeding farm. From an early age I showed an interest in caring for animals, which led to my career in veterinary medicine. I went to veterinary school at Iowa State University and graduated in 2011 and have been at Independence Small Animal Clinic since 2012.

Growing up, I showed in many different equine disciplines including three-day Eventing, Dressage, and Horsemanship. My main interests involve small animal internal medicine and soft tissue surgery. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, animals, and lifting weights at the gym.

Dr. Kristina Janson

Dr. Kristina Janson grew up in northwest Iowa and knew she wanted to pursue veterinary medicine from young age. She completed a B.S. in Animal Science at Iowa State University and went on to graduate from Iowa State’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011.

Following veterinary school she completed an internship at the New Jersey Equine Clinic and residency in large animal reproduction at the University of Pennsylvania. After residency she moved to North Texas and it has been home ever since.

Outside of work you’ll likely find Kristina practicing agility with her dog Winnie, triathlon training or spending any extra free time with family & friends.

It is my job to advocate for your beloved pets, ensuring they get the best care possible and each feel the love that we all have for our patients.I’m originally from Shreveport, Louisiana but I love it here in Texas. I’ve always had a special love for animals no matter how big or small. I have 2 dogs, a German Shepherd and a French Bulldog. I enjoy taking them to the lake and spending nice days outside. Even though I only have 2 dogs, I believe that every animal deserves a chance to be loved and taken care of.

Christian Hornbeck

Veterinary Technician

Since 1989, I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to dedicate my years helping animals in the veterinary industry, most of which as a technician.

I moved to Collinsville in 2018 and I’ve been blessed to have found my place here at Independence Equine and small Animal clinic. In my spare time, I enjoy fishing, camping, hiking and most of all, spending time with my pups and my family. I volunteer as a K9 handler for a local Search and Rescue Team during my remaining free time.

I have two Belgian Malinois and a German Shorthair Pointer who provide constant daily challenges, while reminding me how lucky I am to have them. My husband always says, ”It’s not work if you truly love what you do.” I couldn’t agree more.

I am married to my husband Shane Dancer and together we have four boys and five girls, as well as five amazing grandchildren. I get to come home everyday to our two Yorkies Gus and Oakley, our husky Diesel and rescue Oliver, as well as Jinx our cat. In my downtime I enjoy photography, riding motorcycles and spending time with my family.

Deanna Rocha

FT Receptionist

Hi, my name is Deanna, and I am a receptionist here at Independence.

I have two fur babies of my own. “Wheezy” is my Domestic shorthair tabby and “Little Old Man” is my chihuahua that I’ve had since I was a 7-year-old little girl.

After finishing high school, I was definitely trying to find some place to work at that I would genuinely enjoy and after searching I ended up here and I’ve cherished every moment since. I love seeing all your little babies walk through that front door and making sure they get taken care of.

While I’m not at work I enjoy rzr riding, and spending time with family.
